Welcome!
Dear reader,
Welcome to SIG ED, the Special Interest Group for Education in Information in Information Science at the American Society for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T).
Of the different interest groups at ASIS&T, we focus on education – thus, we are concerned with all aspects of teaching and learning, and have members ranging from faculty to students to practitioners in the field of information.
We help members connect with each other on all education-related aspects (join and collaborate using our mailing list (view past discussion), join us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, or meet us face-to-face at the ASIS&T annual meeting. We organize panels and workshops at the Annual meeting, contribute research articles and also hold webinars through the year. Find out more about our recent work.
You’ll also find helpful teaching and learning resources, which will be an ongoing process. You can also choose to contribute to it. We have a great team. Though we are geographically dispersed, we hold monthly skype meetings to plan how to serve you better. I invite you to join SIG ED.
How to join SIG ED?
If you’re not yet a member of ASIS&T, you can join here: http://www.asis.org/membership.php. ASIS&T members are allowed 1 free membership to a SIG of your choice and for an additional $10, you can join as many of the different SIGs at ASIS&T.
If and once you’re an ASIS&T member, I invite you to join SIG ED either as your single preferred SIG or one among different SIGs. You can do that when you join ASIS&T or under your ASIS&T membership profile.
Due to privacy reasons, being a SIG ED member does not automatically subscribe you to the SIG ED mailing list. Both SIG ED members and non-members can subscribe to the mailing list by following these instructions. I highly encourage you to subscribe to the SIG ED mailing list. The mailing list is a place for you to interact with others on any research issue that you might be facing as well as announcing and learning about and collaborating on upcoming conferences and webinars.
Do contact any of us if you have any questions. Until then, enjoy, and continue making a difference!
Warm regards,
Laura Christopherson
Chair, SIG ED
